Point prevalence mapping of malaria infection in Rivers State, Nigeria

Background: Variations in the risk of malaria across locations exist but are poorly understood though identifying hotspots transmission will create opportunities for targeted interventions. Point prevalence Rivers State was studied using Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) as survey points.
 Methods: The PHCs were geo-referenced a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) and 74 selected 21 local government areas systematic grid point sampling. Blood samples obtained from 2340 persons who consented questionnaires administered to obtain their demographic data. Malaria parasites blood films detected Giemsa staining technique. Data generated analysed SPSS 22.0 presented descriptive statistics. level relationship amongst parameters Chi-square. Co-ordinates sampled data entered into Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet transmitted ArcGIS 10.8. This platform then used produce infection maps geographic information systems (GIS). Survey points with values 75% above cumulative 1.97% categorised hot spots various LGAs.
 Results: study recorded an overall 56.3%, P.falciparum only identified parasite. revealed that Oyoro Model Health Centre (MPHC), Arukwo Centre, Ele Post (HP) Emago HP very high 96.7%, 96%, 95.2% 94.4% respectively, whereas MPHC Iriebe had least prevalence. Twelve eight likewise 1.97%.
